Councilman Joe Buscaino to hold his monthly Lunch Mob at Hawkins House of Burgers in Watts

WHAT: As a means to bringing our community together to meet, socialize and get to know each other in an enjoyable lunchtime setting, Councilman Joe Buscaino is inviting LA residents to his fifth monthly “LUNCH MOB.” This one will be at the famous Hawkins House of Burgers in Watts at 11603 S Slater St. 90059. “Lunch Mob is meant to bring us together to break bread and get to know our neighbors better while supporting our local businesses during a casual lunch,” said Buscaino.

Located a few blocks from the iconic Watts Towers, Hawkins House of Burgers is a small grocery store known for its behemoth burgers, as well as its half-century in business. The signature burger is undoubtedly the Whipper, an impressive construction of double-stacked beef patties fused together with melted American cheese and topped with shaved pastrami and a butterflied hot link. The pastrami is peppery and tender; the sausage link snaps and bursts with spicy juice; and the hand-shaped beef patty is griddled to a fine char. Garnished by mustard, onions, dill pickle chips and sweet relish, this burger tastes like a greatest-hits compilation of all things you could ever desire from a neighborhood burger shack.
