In response to the rapidly escalating number of homicides of unarmed African-American men and the mentally ill by law enforcement officers all across the nation, Actor Harry Lennix will moderate a panel discussion with elected officials, civil rights attorneys, law enforcement and mental health professionals on Thursday, May 28, 2015, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Faithful Central Bible Church (FCBC), located at 321 N. Eucalyptus Avenue in Inglewood.

The purpose of this event is to provide a forum for a dialogue that leads to a change in public policy. In accordance with the theory, “As goes California, so goes the nation,” organizers are seeking legislation that results nationally in greater communication between law enforcement and the community and a reduction in the number of homicides by cops against unarmed black men and individuals with mental health issues.

Also of major concern is the apparent conflict of interest inherent in the grand jury process. All over the country, district attorneys are called upon to indict members of the very agencies that they rely on to make their other cases.

“We also want to make it clear that this meeting is not being called to issue an indictment on all of law enforcement. We are well aware that these incidents of excessive force are not representative of the thousands of good law enforcement personnel who risk their lives every day all over the country in the performance of their duties,” said Marc Little, Overseer of the FCBC Political Action Ministry. “However, we must do something that moves us from marches and demonstrations to solutions,” he concluded.

Lennix, the star of NBC’s hit series, The Blacklist, is also active in various civic groups. His role as Spokesman for NOBLE, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives as well as being an ambassador to the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, makes him uniquely qualified to moderate this panel.

Panelists include: Senator Isadore Hall, Assemblymen Mike Gipson and Reginald Jones-Sawyer, civil rights attorneys Leo Terrell and John Harris, Dr. James Jones, M.D. from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, FBI Agent Robert Clark, LAPD Commander William Scott and more.

The IAN is a coalition of six churches representative of approximately 100,000 registered voters in Los Angeles County: FCBC (Inglewood), City of Refuge (Gardena), West Angeles (Los Angeles), Crenshaw Christian Center (Los Angeles), Holman United Methodist Church (Los Angeles), and Citizens of Zion (Compton).
