The deadline for applications has been extended to May 17.

Reporter Corps will train young adults in journalistic ethics and practice, multimedia storytelling skills, and how their local government works so that they can report on their own community. Reporters will publish stories on Intersections South LA and receive training and support from professional journalists and researchers. Reporter Corps is made possible with the support of USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and the McCormick Foundation.

Program Details
Reporter Corps offers young adults (18-24) direct experience with digital news processes and production, city government, fair representation, and storytelling, as well as an introduction to various professions. Reporters will also benefit from the journalistic resources at USC Annenberg and will be encouraged to collaborate on projects with USC journalism students.

Reporter Corps members will be paired with professional mentors in the field of journalism. The program gives participants the opportunity to give back to their communities, and creates a crucial resource for local news coverage. Reporters’ work will appear in the community news website Intersections South LA (www.intersectionssouthla.org). Program begins May 20.

Application Requirements
Ideal applicants are 18-24 years of age, grew up or live in the South LA area, hold a high school diploma, and can commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week for three months. Training, mentorship, and a weekly stipend will be offered.

You don’t need to have a journalism background to be part of Reporter Corps, but you do need to have a strong sense of curiosity, desire to express yourself, and interest in improving your community.

A statement of interest and resume should be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, May 17 via the application form here.
