LAUSD pinching pennies to close budget gap



The largest school district in the nation has a $640 million deficit to close. It received the disappointing news that California’s application for Race to the Top stimulus funds from the federal government was denied for Phase 1. The district may try again and apply in Phase 2 of the funding plan, but in the meantime, officials need to use any means necessary to close the budget.
